It is well known that learning to sew is difficult, especially when you don't know where to start. In this tutorial, we show you how to sew a scrunchie. This accessory is perfect if you want to start sewing!
(This Youtube video is only in French)
Here is the list of materials you will need:
There is no specific type of fabric for scrunchies. However, we recommend a few, for example Swiss cotton, jeans, cotton poplin, double gauze, etc. PS: Satin can also be used and in addition it will not damage the structure of your hair. 😉
Step 1: First of all, cut 10 cm by 60 cm of fabric (4 inch by 24 inch). Fold it in half, right side against right side, do not forget to save 4 cm (1.5 inch) at the beginning and at the end then pin it with clips.
Step 2: Start sewing from the first clip, as in the picture below, to the last. Remove the clips as the tube forms. When done, turn the tube over so you can see the right side of the fabric again.
Step 3: Join the ends, right sides together, as in the picture below, then sew.
Step 4: Pick any rubber band as long as it's strong enough when you pull on it. Cut 20 cm (8 inch) of it, then pass it through the tube. Be careful to hold the two ends well and sew them on top of each other in the zigzag mode of your machine.
Step 5: Once finished, fold down the remaining centimeters or inches of your fabric to make an internal hem then topstitch everything.
And there you have it, have fun with your scrunchie!
