For several generations, jeans fabrics have established themselves as a timeless classic in the world of fashion and sewing. Both sturdy, elegant and versatile, this textile comes in a wide variety of textures, weights and colours, making it suitable for a wide range of projects.

At Verotex, we offer a complete range of Oeko-Tex-certified jeans fabrics sold by the metre, to fulfil all your creative needs while respecting the environment and your skin.

What is jeans fabric?

A natural material with countless variations

jeans, also known as denim, is traditionally made from cotton, sometimes blended with elastane or polyester for greater flexibility and comfort. It is characterised by a twill weave, which gives it its durability and two-tone effect, typically blue on the right side and white on the reverse.

Its variants include:

  • Denim: a thick, durable fabric with a visible diagonal weave.
  • Chambray: lighter and more supple, perfect for shirts or flowing garments.
  • Stretch denim: contains elastane for enhanced comfort, ideal for trousers, shorts, wrap skirts or opt for trendy jackets, shirts, jumpsuits and dungarees.

A palette of colours and styles for all your creative projects

Jeans fabric is available in a wide range of colours:

  • Raw, indigo, navy or sky blue
  • Black, light or dark gray
  • Khaki, white or beige
  • Pastel or bright shades (pink, mint green, mustard)

You can also choose from original patterns such as:

  • Striped prints
  • Floral or geometric patterns
  • Solid, washed or textured versions

Why choose jeans fabrics for your sewing projects?

Hard-wearing, versatile and easy to work with

Jeans fabric is known for its exceptional strength, making it a top choice for:

  • Everyday items that require durability and strength
  • Stylish and practical fashion projects
  • Accessories that must withstand wear and tear

It is also easy to sew, even for beginners, provided you use the right tools:

  • A special jeans needle (such as Schmetz needles)
  • A strong polyester thread
  • A carefully adjusted sewing machine for thick layers

What can you make with jeans fabric?

Clothing

Jeans are ideal for comfortable, fashionable and durable clothing:

  • Classic or slim-fit trousers
  • Wrap skirts or miniskirts
  • Dresses, jumpsuits or dungarees
  • Timeless jeans jackets
  • Lightweight chambray shirts
  • Shorts for summer

Accessories

To add an original touch to your outfits or interior:

  • Tote bags or shoulder bags
  • Belts, hats or headbands
  • DIY pouches, cases or covers

Interior décor

Jeans also bring style to your interior décor:

  • Modern, hard-wearing cushions
  • Bedspreads or sofa throws
  • Stools upholstered in denim
  • Durable tablecloths or placemats

Tips for sewing jeans fabric successfully

Sewing jeans may seem intimidating, but with a few tips, everything becomes easier:

  • Always wash your fabric before working with it (it may shrink slightly).
  • Use a special jeans needle, especially for areas with double layers.
  • Opt for a long, even stitch, particularly for visible seams.
  • If your fabric is stretchy, don't forget to choose a stretch stitch suitable for it.
  • For neat finishes, remember to overlock the edges and use rivets or decorative topstitching.

Jeans: an easy-care material

Jeans or denim fabric should be sewn with a special Schmetz jeans needle, available in our haberdashery section. For a beautiful result, we also recommend using our high-quality French thread.

Another significant advantage is that jeans fabric is easy to wash. It can be machine-washed without any problem at 30° or 40°, dries quickly, and retains its original appearance for a long time.

Care tips:

  • Turn garments inside out before washing to preserve the colour.
  • Avoid fabric softener to prevent damage to the stretch fibres.
  • Air-drying is recommended for thick jeans.

A durable and always-on-trend material

Jeans fabric never goes out of fashion. From its beginnings in workwear to the runways of leading designers, it has managed to evolve without losing its identity. That is why it is just as popular for custom DIY projects as it is for ready-to-wear creations.
