Is the Lewenstein I-lock suitable as a first overlocker?

Cut, assemble and overlock in a single pass, with settings that are easy to understand, is exactly what you want from your first overlocker. The L-Ilock handles jersey and sweatshirt fabric as well as poplin and denim. Try it in the Grez-Doiceau store with your own fabric scraps.

Does a basic overlocker produce the same stitch as an expensive model?

The overlock stitch does not change. It is the adjustment comfort, stability at high speed, and automation that improve as you move up the range. The I-lock requires manually adjusting the tensions, a skill that can be learned with a few fabric scraps. For occasional use, the difference is barely noticeable.

Can you sew an entire garment with an overlocker?

A large part of the construction, yes. Knit fabric seams are sewn directly on the overlocker, faster than with a straight stitch. Hems, zippers, and buttonholes still require the sewing machine. The two machines complement each other, and the I-lock doesn’t take up much space beside it.

What should I do if the result puckers on jersey fabric?

First, adjust the differential feed, as it prevents the fabric from stretching under the presser foot. If the edge is still wavy, the looper tension is the issue. These two adjustments are part of the setup assistance included with the purchase of a machine, whether in-store or remotely.
