What fabrics to choose when learning to sew?

• Cotton poplin fabric : Poplin is a lightweight, easy-to-sew fabric that's suitable for many sewing projects. It's low-stretch and easy to sew, making it the perfect fabric for beginners. It doesn't move around, making it very easy to handle.  
• Linen fabric: Linen is a strong and durable fabric . It is the ideal material for beginners.  
• Swiss cotton fabric : Swiss cotton is a lightweight and soft cotton fabric that is suitable for many beginner sewing projects. Thanks to its mercerized thread, it has a silky feel. It sews like cotton poplin, and the sewing machine feeds the fabric very easily .  
• Jersey fabric: Jersey is a soft, stretchy fabric , usually knitted or worked from blends of viscose or cotton jersey. It's a stretchy, comfortable fabric that's suitable for many beginner sewing projects, such as T-shirts and leggings. It's recommended to let the fabric slide under the sewing machine without pulling on it.
• Honeycomb fabric: it takes its name from the shape of the cells present on the fabric that were formed during weaving. Honeycomb is a waffle cotton fabric . The fabric has a medium-weight and resistant drape. The advantage of honeycomb is that you simply follow the outline of the waffle to cut it. It is ideal for domestic uses, clothing and baby accessories.  
• Cotton terry cloth: Cotton terry cloth is a fabric woven with small loops . Cotton terry cloth has a medium-weight and durable drape. It sews in the same way as honeycomb fabric and is therefore perfect for first sewing projects.  
• Cotton canvas fabric: Cotton canvas is an extremely durable, plain fabric made of thicker cotton . Canvas has a medium-weight, durable drape. We recommend overlocking (zigzag stitching ) your edges together while sewing .

It's important to choose a fabric that's right for your sewing project and skill level. If you're a beginner, we recommend choosing materials that are easy to work with to help you gain experience and feel comfortable using your sewing machine. For example, if you 're looking to sew a bow tie , choose a sturdy fabric like cotton, which will allow you to master the basics without difficulty.

Jersey fabric can be daunting at first, but if you use it correctly without pulling while sewing, you'll be happy with the results. If you have a good stretch needle and the tension on your sewing machine is set correctly when you change from stitch to zigzag, there won't be any problems.
