-
Swiss cotton fabric : Swiss cotton is a lightweight, soft cotton fabric that is suitable for many beginner sewing projects. Thanks to its mercerized thread, it has a silky effect. It is sewn like cotton poplin, the sewing machine feeds the fabric very easily .
-
jersey fabric: jersey is a soft and elastic fabric, generally knitted or worked from viscose blends or cotton jersey. It's a stretchy, comfortable fabric that's suitable for many beginner sewing projects, like T-shirts and leggings. It is advisable to let the fabric slide under the machine without pulling on it.
-
honeycomb fabric: it takes its name from the shape of the cells present on the fabric which were formed during weaving. Honeycomb is an embossed cotton fabric. The fabric has a mid-weight and durable drape. The advantage of the honeycomb is that you just have to follow the outline of the waffle to cut it. It is ideal for domestic uses, clothing and baby accessories.
- cotton terry cloth: cotton terry cloth is a small loop woven fabric. The cotton terrycloth has a medium-weight and durable drape. It is sewn in the same way as honeycomb fabric and therefore perfect for first sewing projects.
- cotton canvas fabric: cotton canvas is an extremely resistant plain fabric made of thicker cotton. The canvas has a mid-weight and durable drape. We advise you to overcast (make a zig - zag stitch ) your edges together while sewing .
It's important to choose a fabric that's right for your sewing project and skill level. If you are a beginner, we recommend choosing materials that are easy to work with to help you gain experience and feel comfortable with your sewing machine.
Jersey fabric can be scary at first use, but if you use it correctly without pulling while sewing, you will be satisfied with the result. If you have a good stretch needle and the tension on your sewing machine is set correctly when changing from stitch to zigzag stitch, there will be no problem.
It's completely normal to want to try sewing in different ways and to want to mix materials, but for your first sewing projects try to stick with the same fabric materials.
Remember that you learn from your mistakes. So start with small projects before embarking on ambitious projects.
Finally, always choose a fabric that you like, this will motivate you more to sew.
