How to Sew a Pouch Easily?

If you are a beginner or looking for a great tutorial, here are the key steps to successfully sew a pouch:

1. Choose your fabric

Choose cotton poplin, faux leather or canvas depending on the style and intended use of your pouch. For a more personalised result, you can choose a fabric with floral patterns or a plain fabric for a classic style.

2. Prepare the pouch pattern

Cut a small rectangle or a large rectangle depending on the desired size. Remember to add a few extra centimetres for the seam allowance and the zip fold.

3. Add interfacing

For better support, use a lightweight fusible interfacing or non-woven interfacing, especially with cotton poplin, to provide more structure. This step is essential for the pouch to keep its shape.

4. Sew the sides of the pouch

Here are the standard sizes for the projects this fabric can be used for, with a width of 115 to 140 cm.

• Pouches: 2 rectangles measuring 25 × 20 cm
• Bags: 2 rectangles measuring 40 × 45 cm for a tote bag
• Tablecloths: the table size plus 20 cm of overhang on each side
• Bandanas: a 55 × 55 cm square
• Wipes: 10 × 10 cm squares
• Paper towels: 10 sheets measuring 25 cm, or 50 cm of 140 cm-wide fabric

For example, for a pouch, use 2 rectangles measuring 25 × 20 cm.

In practical terms, one metre of fabric is already enough for several pieces. In practice, there is no need to pre-wash it: our fabrics have already been pre-washed and will not shrink as long as they are washed at 30 degrees.
