Sewing machines in Wavre
Brenda answers you on WhatsApp, Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The shop is in Grez-Doiceau, on Chaussée de Wavre. In other words, at the end of the road leading east out of Wavre: fifteen minutes from the Grand-Place, less from Bierges or Limal. It is close enough to come and try three sewing machines on a Saturday morning, have fabric cut by the metre while you are there, and bring yours back to the workshop the day it starts to struggle.
Coming from Wavre: one road
No motorway, no detour. Chaussée de Wavre connects Wavre town centre directly to the shop, and the journey takes fifteen minutes outside peak hours.

Wavre, its sections and surrounding municipalities
Customers from Wavre come from the city itself, its districts and the whole of northern Walloon Brabant. The closer you are, the more natural it is to stop by for a test, a spool of thread or maintenance.

Why make the trip
A sewing machine must be judged by ear and under your fingers: the sound of the motor under load, the consistency of the feed through three layers, the actual space under the arm, and the weight of the handwheel. No product page conveys these four things. Four situations come up all the time at the counter.
You are a beginner
The classic trap is a forty-stitch machine when you will only ever use the straight stitch and zigzag. Our guide, which sewing machine to choose for beginners, sets out the right criteria.
You are starting again after years
The machine from the attic may still sew very well. A visit to the workshop often costs less than replacing it. To get back up to speed, see the basics of sewing and how to use a sewing machine.
You sew a lot
Jersey, faux leather and layers of denim require strong feed and a stable base that does not move. This is when you start wondering how to choose your overlocker.
Your machine lets you down
Skipped stitches, thread breaking, unusual noise: often it just needs a readjustment, sometimes a part needs replacing. The workshop opens the machine on site and tells you what the issue is.
What buying a machine is like, from the door to the first stitch
- You tell us what you sewJersey for children, a wool coat, leather goods, quilting: each answer eliminates half the department.
- We bring out two or three machinesNot ten. You sew on them, using your own fabric if you brought some, and you can hear the difference straight away.
- You leave with the machineSet up and ready. Delivery is free for purchases over €500 if you would rather not carry anything, with details on the delivery costs page.
- Getting startedMore than an hour included: threading, tension, useful stitches, routine maintenance. In store or remotely, whichever suits you.
- The workshop takes over from there5-year warranty, servicing every two years, repairs for all brands. The machine comes back to you through the people who sold it to you.
What determines a machine's price
The question of budget always comes up, and the answer rarely depends on the number of stitches. What you are paying for is four things you can feel from the very first metre of sewing.
Frame
A metal frame absorbs vibrations. A machine that moves across the table at full speed will never produce a straight seam for long.
Feed
The feed dogs and presser-foot pressure determine how layers pass through. Dual feed or a walking foot makes all the difference with faux leather and quilted fabrics.
Throat space
A few extra centimetres, and a quilt turns without creasing. This is the criterion that distinguishes a garment machine from a quilting machine.
Comfort
Needle threader, thread cutter, high or low needle position, lighting: nothing essential on its own, but they greatly reduce fatigue over time.
The rest - decorative stitches and the screen - comes last. It is often what costs the most and gets used the least.
Machines by use
Verotex is a Juki Concept Store and an official BERNINA, bernette and Lewenstein dealer. The choice is based on the project, not the brand.
- Machines for beginners: mechanical or electronic, with the useful stitches and nothing superfluous.
- Semi-professional models for intensive sewing and heavy fabrics.
- Overlockers and coverstitch machines for finishing and jersey fabrics.
- Embroidery machines and quilting machines, with the generous throat space required for a quilted project.
- Ironing equipment and cutting machines for the rest of the sewing workshop.
The workshop: repairs and servicing for all brands
The workshop is located in the store, a quarter of an hour from Wavre. It services machines purchased from Verotex as well as those bought elsewhere, regardless of the brand, with a quote provided before any work begins. Almost everything is repaired on site; the machine is sent to the manufacturer only when there is no other solution. BERNINA machines are repaired regardless of their age.
When to service it
Every two years for a machine in regular use, once a year if it runs a lot. Lint gets packed down under the feed dog and the tensions eventually slip: the stitch suffers before you can see it. Between services, cleaning your overlocker is easy to do at home. For everything else, see the repair and maintenance service.
Fabrics, haberdashery and sewing patterns
The trip from Wavre is also worthwhile for the rest of the store. Fabrics are cut to order by the metre: the exact amount you need, without paying for leftover fabric unnecessarily. The drape of viscose, the weight of French Terry, and the hand of linen are best assessed between your fingers and in daylight, never from a photo. Cotton poplin, denim, double gauze and organic fabrics make up most of the fabric cuts that go out.
Also available are haberdashery, sewing patterns, machine accessories and, when it is time to cut into the fabric, this guide on how to find the grainline. Free delivery on fabrics from €75.
Learn to sew fifteen minutes from Wavre
Sewing classes are held in small groups in Grez-Doiceau: for beginners, those returning after years away, or anyone looking for a specific technique, such as inserting a zipper, finishing with bias binding, or sewing an invisible hem. There are also classes for children and classes held outside the store. The premises can also be rented for a sewing team-building event or a birthday party.
Is the trip worth it?
Yes, if
- you are hesitating between two or three models;
- you want to hear the machine running on your fabric;
- your machine is skipping stitches or making a new noise;
- you sew with jersey and are wondering whether you need an overlocker;
- you want fabric cut to the exact length.
Not necessarily, if
- you already know exactly which model you want: ordering online is enough, and getting started is done remotely;
- you are looking for a common sewing supply that you already have in mind;
- if you cannot come during opening hours: write to us on WhatsApp, and we can often find a solution.
Frequently asked questions from Wavre
Can I try a machine before buying?

All displayed machines can be tested in the shop, with a demonstration: sewing machines, overlockers, coverstitch machines and embroidery machines. Bring the fabric you usually sew; it is what distinguishes the models.
How long does a test take?
How long does a test take?
As long as it takes. A rushed test leads to a machine gathering dust in a cupboard. A WhatsApp message before travelling allows us to reserve a time slot.

Which machine should I start with?
Which machine should I start with?
A solid mechanical machine with clear threading is a better first purchase than a model loaded with decorative stitches. The real criterion is stitch consistency, not the length of the list.
Do I need an overlocker?

Once jersey becomes a regular part of your projects, yes. It cuts, joins and overlocks in one pass, giving a garment the finished look of store-bought clothing.
